Online MA StratComm grad launches nonprofit to help moms

In her day job, Hope Evans is a copywriter who helps well-off couples take luxurious vacations at Caribbean resorts. After work, Hope helps a different clientele: struggling single moms. On Mother’s Day 2016, she launched a nonprofit called Hope for Single Moms, which offers funding, resources, opportunities for spiritual growth, and education.

Hope is a single mom who had long considered helping others like herself. In January 2015, she enrolled in the online strategic communications master’s program offered through The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. That decision brought both inspiration and empowerment. Read more…

Murrow’s Smith to head Baltimore Police media relations effort

Department says hiring part of a “cosmic shift in thinking”

Murrow MA student TJ Smith has accepted a new position with the Baltimore Police Department as their Director of Media Relations. Smith, has been at the forefront of modern media police relations using many of the online tools he learned through the Murrow online program.

“There is a cosmic shift in thinking underway in modern policing, and this situation highlights the importance of communication and will become a model in law enforcement,” Interim Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said. “Lt. Smith, a native son of Baltimore, is the trusted voice of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, and I know that many of the men and women within the Baltimore Police Department and the citizens of Baltimore recognize and feel that same level of trust that I do.” Read more

Murrow – “Best Online Master’s in Communication and PR” award

(Pullman, WA) — The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication has received the “Best Online Master’s in Communication and Public Relations” award from the Nonprofit Colleges Online organization (nonprofitcollegesonline.com). The website lists The Murrow College and Washington State University as No. 7 overall, as well as the top program for graduate studies in Strategic Communications. WSU will offer new online M.A. in strategic communication

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University is launching an online M.A. degree in strategic communication with classes to begin in January 2014.

The master’s degree builds on the college’s reputation for career preparation that combines social responsibility with communication skills across evolving platforms and emphasizes experiential learning based on communication theories and industry standards. Read more.
